5 Tips for Keeping Your Pet Warm during Winter
During the winter months, we want to make sure that our pets stay warm on walks and other outdoor activities so they don’t develop any sickness or illness. Consider the following tips to keep your pet warm on your winter walks:
- Give them a coat or sweater: Coats and sweaters can be an effective way to keep your pet warm during the winter. Many pet shops and even retail stores have a variety of selections of sweaters for pets. Be sure to pick the appropriate size!
- Put on shoes or boots: During the winter months, the ground can get very chilly. Depending on where you are, there could even be ice on the sidewalks. To protect your pet’s feet, consider putting on shoes for your furry friend!
- Plan ahead: Check the weather and plan ahead during the winter months. For example, if it’s going to rain or snow during a period of the day, schedule your walks ahead of time so that your pet won’t have to go to the bathroom during any severe thunderstorms or winter storms.
- Add more blankets and keep your pet’s bed in a warm place: Even if we’re inside, sometimes the winter weather can make our houses very cold! Add a good mix of blankets to your pet’s bed and tuck them in when they’re sleeping so they can better retain the warmth and their body heat while they’re asleep.
- Keep your pets well-fed and hydrated: During the winter months, your pet will spend more energy to generate body heat to stay warm. To compensate, make sure to feed your pet well. For nutrition and diet guidance, schedule an appointment with your vet so your pet is getting the right mix of protein, carbs, and fat.
